CAA Ergonomic Vertical Grip: Affordable and a shooter’s choice

The Ergonomic Vertical Grip by CAA refreshes the concept of forward grips, and brings a great design to the table; one that should be built upon.

Design:

The grip was designed to mount on any standard Picatinny rail. It is tightened onto the rail by making use of a captive thumb nut that once tightened firmly, will stay on there, no matter what. It’s quite long by forward grip standards, but that’s because it’s built to be gripped fully by all four fingers, which makes gun control absolute. What’s nice is that the grip is designed much like a handgun pistol grip as far as grooves and stippling is concerned. On the back of the vertical grip, you have smooth feeling rubberized “checkered dots” that keep your palm from slipping. The same stippling is applied on the side of the finger grooves. On the center of the finger grooves you have deep and sharp horizontal lines which offer great grip but may be problematic (see comfort). On the bottom, there’s an accessible storage compartment. CAA claims that this grip design provides a natural fighting stance, and we can attest to that.

Material:

The entire forward grip is made of high quality polymer. Even after extensive use, this little baby will still look like new, as the polymer retains its look and feel. The only lower quality polymer part is the cover of the storage compartment, whose polymer does bend when opened. CAA offers a lifetime warranty on the grip, which attests to the durability of its build. The grip is available in Black and Green.

Comfort:

Seeing as the EVG was designed for full grip with four fingers, it feels exceptionally comfortable when gripping it. Even when sweaty in hot environments or when the grip gets muddy and wet, a strong grip can still be maintained due to the smart design of the grooves. The only downside as far as the grooves are concerned are the horizontal grooves in the center of the finger grooves. They’re sharp and pronounced and when holding the grip for a prolonged time, firmly, it will leave its mark on your hands. When using gloves you obviously don’t have this issue, but not everyone likes using gloves and the situation doesn’t always permit it.

Storage:

The storage compartment at the bottom was designed to hold thing like batteries or small weapons parts. I could see it also be useful for cigarettes and the like. Much like many grip storage spaces though, you will have to make sure that you stuff some cloth or foam in there to keep it from rattling or bouncing around in there. The screw cap that keeps the storage compartment closed is not very practical to open. You’d usually need something like a coin to open it, seeing as a small flat-blade won’t cut it, and neither will 5.56/7.62 bullets. You will be able to open it with a 50cal bullet, but who’s got one of those lying around when needed. However, the storage space is quite practical and a nice bonus.

Versatility:

The CAA grip is easily attached and removed with the simple turn knob, that sets it comfortably in place. All within a matter of seconds. No tools required whatsoever. (though I did use my multi-tool to tighten it even more for good measure) However, it is a full size grip, that is meant to be completely gripped with a full hand, so if your Picatinny rail is too far forward, you may not be very comfortable reaching it. It must be attached closer than some other grips. The grip, however, is compatible and comfortable for use with almost any weapons platform.

Price:

Running at around $22-$25 depending on where you buy it, it is an excellent buy for the outstanding quality it offers. It’s affordable and it will last you a lifetime!

All in all, the CAA Ergonomic Vertical foregrip is a fantastic grip for any serious shooter, especially military. It’s great grooving in combination with offering a full handed grip assure a good fire control and will feel great in anyone’s hand. At an excellent price point, and of superior quality, this should be an easy choice for almost anyone.
